Nonparametric Specification Testing for Continuous-Time Models with Applications to Term Structure of Interest Rates

چکیده
We develop a nonparametric specification test for continuous-time models using the transition density. Using a data transform and correcting for the boundary bias of kernel estimators, our test is robust to serial dependence in data and provides excellent finite sample performance. Besides univariate diffusion models, our test is applicable to a wide variety of continuous-time and discrete-time dynamic models, including time-inhomogeneous diffusion, GARCH, stochastic volatility, regimeswitching, jump-diffusion, and multivariate diffusion models. A class of separate inference procedures is also proposed to help gauge possible sources of model misspecification. We strongly reject a variety of univariate diffusion models for daily Eurodollar spot rates and some popular multivariate affine term structure models for monthly U.S. Treasury yields.

متن کاملIs the Drift of the Interest Rate Process Linear? A New Approach and Evidence
Continuous-time models are important for investigating interest rate term structure and pricing fixed income derivatives. Economic theory often provides little guidance on the choice of the form of continuous-time models, and existing one-factor and multi-factor continuous-time interest rate models often assume a linear drift, among other things. Some studies, based smoothed nonparametric kerne...

We provide a limit theory for a general class of kernel smoothed U-statistics that may be used for specification testing in time series regression with nonstationary data. The test framework allows for linear and nonlin-ear models with endogenous regressors that have autoregressive unit roots or near unit roots. The limit theory for the specification test depends on the self-intersection local ...
متن کاملA New Nonparametric Regression for Longitudinal Data
In many area of medical research, a relation analysis between one response variable and some explanatory variables is desirable. Regression is the most common tool in this situation. If we have some assumptions for such normality for response variable, we could use it. In this paper we propose a nonparametric regression that does not have normality assumption for response variable and we focus ...
متن کاملA Reexamination of Diffusion Estimators With Applications to Financial Model Validation
Time-homogeneous diffusion models have been widely used for describing the stochastic dynamics of the underlying economic variables. Recently, Stanton proposed drift and diffusion estimators based on a higher-order approximation scheme and kernel regression method. He claimed that “higher order approximations must outperform lower order approximations” and concluded nonlinearity in the instanta...
